I have just found one more reason to smile after discovering The Smile Bar, a new teeth whitening bar in Wanchai (near Hopewell Centre).

The whitening bar is certainly the first of its kind in Hong Kong, but this is actually an existing concept from abroad and is quite popular in the USA where a charming smile and white teeth are as important as designer clothing!

The Smile Bar offers a comfortable, fun and quick alternative to teeth whitening at the dentist’s. The bar uses new Swedish products that are 100% safe, and you can get 25% off your first visit by quoting “Steph’s 852 Diary” – the offer lasts until 30 October 2015 only! (After 30 October, you can feel free to call or email The Smile Bar to see what other promotions they have!)

After you make the booking, a specialist will explain the teeth whitening process to you. Then, you will be brought to this mirror to assess the colour of your teeth, using a guide that shows a range of teeth colours.

After your teeth’s colour has been determined, you will be brought to the lounge or treatment area, which looks absolutely hip and fabulous with all these red-and-white egg chairs! They look so inviting that I have to resist jumping on one as soon as I see them. The whitening process here is meant to be a fun, social experience, so you are highly encouraged to come with friends, but if you prefer more privacy, you can request a private room when making the booking.

Before you start the direct whitening, you will first have to clean your teeth using the Brilliant Smile WhiteningEvo Mouth Rinse and WhiteningEvo Toothpaste. This brand is from Sweden and if you like these products, you can purchase them at the counter.

Each teeth whitening session only lasts 20 minutes. The specialist will apply a revolutionary gel from Sweden which is 100% safe, and then your teeth will be exposed to LED light (which doesn’t have any UV) – people with very sensitive teeth might feel a tingling sensation during the treatment. I have moderately sensitive teeth myself, but I can barely feel anything during the treatment.

Each direct whitening session only lasts 20 minutes, and costs $588 per session. You can also opt for a double whitening session ($988) and triple whitening session ($1,388). If it is your first time, the double or triple whitening session is recommended, but you can go for single sessions for maintenance afterwards.

During the 20 minutes, you can literally just sit back and relax! You get your own Bose headphones and I spend my 20 minutes watching YouTube videos.

The whitening sessions go by very quickly, and it is suggested that you don’t eat deeply coloured foods for around 3 days (i.e. 72 hours) after the treatment. However, you can also opt for Nano Seal Total, at $250, which involves the application of a colourless protection gel to your teeth so that you can eat anything right after your treatment.

I find the process indeed very comfortable, quick and convenient, as promised! After a double whitening session, my teeth are around 2-3 shades whiter. I am told that the results can last 2-3 months, but as I drink coffee all the time, I am guessing that mine should only last a month or so! It does cost a few hundred dollars to get this treatment done, but this should be cheaper than getting your teeth bleached at the dentist’s. Many of my friends and readers have already visited The Smile Bar and have great feedback!

Since I have been getting a lot of questions on this treatment, please see if any of your questions are answered on the official website’s FAQ page. If you still have more questions about my visit or would like to share your feedback, then by all means feel free to send me an email or drop a comment below!
